Who We Are
Camp for Deaf Youth is a week-long summer program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing youth ages 10–15, held at Camp Blue Ridge. Our camp is designed to be fully accessible, language-rich, and led by Deaf staff who serve as mentors, role models, and spiritual leaders.
Throughout the week, campers build friendships in a community where communication is open, natural, and shared. Every activity is conducted in American Sign Language, creating a space where Deaf youth can truly relax, connect, and be themselves.
Camp for Deaf Youth is more than a camp—it’s a place where Deaf youth belong, are understood, and discover their potential in Christ.

Nohelani Jarnes
Director Nohelani Jarnes leads with a deep commitment to creating accessible, Christ-centered spaces for Deaf youth, shaped by her years of service in interpreting, ministry, and community outreach.
Esther Doss
Assistant Director Esther Doss, a lifelong CODA immersed in Deaf culture, contributes her extensive background as an interpreter, advocate, and former Deaf Ministry Coordinator for the North American Division.
Duane Talley
Assistant Director Duane Talley, who is Hard of Hearing and has been signing since childhood, brings a long history of leadership in Deaf camping ministries, including serving as the first Deaf Camp Director in the 1990s.
Our Staff
Camp staff members are carefully chosen to ensure that campers have the best role models and camp experience. These dedicated volunteers care deeply about Deaf youth and are committed to creating a positive and supportive environment. While most staff are Deaf, interpreters are available to meet additional accessibility needs. All staff members undergo background checks and training to ensure a safe and high-quality experience for every camper.
